BULAWAYO - ZANU PF Senator Molly Mpofu has urged residents of Nkulumane to rally behind the party’s candidate, Freedom Murechu, in the upcoming by‑election scheduled for 20 December.
Mpofu made the call during an anti‑drug campaign tournament held at Nketa 6 Grounds over the weekend, an event that combined community engagement with political mobilisation.
Hundreds of youths, ZANU PF affiliates and local residents attended the Anti‑Drug and Substance Abuse Tournament, hosted by Shadow MPs 4ED. The gathering provided a platform to introduce Murechu, the party’s candidate for the Nkulumane Constituency.
A team of Shadow MPs 4ED, led by Tendai Charuka (Unstoppable), converged from across the country to show solidarity. Also present were ZANU PF Politburo Member and guest of honour Senator Mpofu, Central Committee members led by Cde Nowedza, provincial leadership, DCC members and party affiliates.
In her keynote address, Mpofu described Murechu as “our son” and urged the community to unite behind him.
“We must send him to Parliament to deliver results. He is one of us, and we must stand with him,” she said.
Murechu, who was born and raised in Nkulumane and completed his schooling in the constituency, pledged to lead with humility and purpose.
“Nkulumane deserves better. Together, we will push for real transformation under NDS2,” he said, aligning his vision with Vision 2030 and building on NDS1 progress.
The event also featured a lecture on drug and substance abuse delivered by Gadzani from Nurse Aides for ED, who urged youths to avoid destructive habits and focus on productivity.
Tournament winners walked away with cash prizes, jerseys and balls, underscoring the blend of sport, politics and community development.
The event highlighted ZANU PF’s commitment to youth empowerment, drug prevention and progress under Vision 2030.
