Scores of families stranded after hail storm in Matobo

Scores of families are stranded for shelter after a hailstorm recently hit the area leaving a train of destruction.

According to district government officials, 846 people were seriously affected after 176 homesteads were destroyed by the storm.

Matobo  District Administrator, Obey Chiputsira said two children died during the storm at Lubhangwe village and several villagers were left homeless.

"We have provided medical attention and some food  will be transported to the area this week. We are lobbying for funds for the reconstruction of the damaged homes," he said

A villager said the two children were staying with their grandmother while their parents are in South Africa.

She said  the room they were staying in was destroyed by the hailstorm and were hit by bricks and they were taken to hospital where they died of injuries.
