Zvishavane magistrate, Achy Wochiunga has issued a warrant of arrest for a female Harare police officer who is facing fraud charges after she absconded court.

Evelyn Dzama, who resides at Southerton police staff quarters failed to appear before Wochiunga for allegedly demanding $400 "police joining fee" from Thabani Sibanda (29) of Nyengera village under Chief Madyengove.

According to the State, sometime in August 2017, Sibanda applied to join the ZRP and passed an interview held at Plumtree Updating Centre.

However, two years passed by without being called for training. On January 3, 2019, Dzama called the complainant and informed him that she was stationed at Morris Depot.

She then asked Sibanda if he was still interested in joining the police as training was to start on March 7 and a joining fee of $400 was required.

Sibanda informed his relatives of the development who then made contributions to raise the said amount.

On January 25, the complainant's half-brother Clever Zhou deposited $45 into the accused’s mobile money wallet, before another relative Benjamin Madondo deposited $45, while the complainant deposited $112.

Dzama called and confirmed receiving the down payment.

In March, a day before training, the complainant phoned the accused asking about the training and was told to communicate after a week as dates had changed.

After a week, Dzama’s mobile number was no longer reachable.

A report was made at Zvishavane Police Station and investigations showed Dzama had misrepresented the ZRP. A radio communication was sent to Dzama to appear before Zvishavane magistrate, but she absconded court.
