Ajax manager Frank de Boer has told Liverpool they have until January 29 to force through a deal to sign Luis Suarez, but warned the value of the striker is increasing by up to √Ǭ£5million a day.
The Anfield club have already been labelled as 'disrespectful' for tabling a derisory £12.7m bid for the Uruguayan striker, half the Dutch outfit's initial asking price.
Suarez, who has more than two years left on his current deal, has made no secret of his desire to ply his trade in the Premier League, pointing to the success of Carlos Tevez as proof his style of play is well suited to the rigors of England's top flight.
Liverpool would doubtless reap the benefits of the 25-year-old's confidence, especially with Fernando Torres buckling under the goalscoring burden at the club.
But newly appointed De Boer once reiterated his desire today to keep Suarez in Holland, claiming the World Cup star is irreplaceable.
'He scores, assists gives him and we can not simply be replaced,' said the former Holland captain. 'If Liverpool wants something, it must be fast.
'Within two days, we want security, otherwise it takes too long. By January 29 we want to know where we stand. If Liverpool want to meet our asking price, we add every day five million euros.
De Boer also admitted that Suarez had told him of his affection for Liverpool, but that he hadn't asked for a transfer.
'Ajax is steadfast, we know what we want,' he added. 'If Luis continues [until the end of the season], we have more time to consider the right replacement.'
An Ajax spokesman said on Tuesday: 'If you compare the 15m euros (£12.7m) Liverpool want to pay for Suarez with other transfers you can imagine that it's far too low for us.
'Luis is our top goalscorer for the last three years and also the man with by far the most assists as well. He was one of the big guys for Uruguay in helping them come third in the World Cup in the summer and he still has a contract with us for two and a half years.'
