Stray dog bites Harare City Council worker

A City Council worker in Bloomingdale, Harare, was bitten by a stray dog while on duty, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of municipal by-laws to protect public safety. The incident occurred at house number 6087 and was reported to Mabelreign Police Station.

Ward 16 Councillor Denford Ngadziore confirmed the incident, identifying the victim as Anderson Tendayi Nyambayaro, an employee in the council's amenities department. Nyambayaro is currently receiving treatment at the Mabelreign Council Clinic.

Vaccination Records Missing

Councillor Ngadziore revealed that the dog's owner failed to provide documentation proving the animal had been vaccinated, a violation of local regulations.

"The Dog By-Law, Section 12, should be enforced," Ngadziore stated. "We are seeing several stray dogs in our communities, and this poses a danger to residents and council workers alike."

Calls for Responsible Dog Ownership

The council's by-law mandates that dog owners keep their pets restrained and confined within their property. It also requires that properties housing dogs be gated and secure.

Ngadziore emphasized the importance of adherence to these regulations, noting the risks posed by stray dogs roaming freely in residential areas.
