The Bulawayo City Council recently concluded the Research and Innovation Seminar, which brought together stakeholders to discuss the role of innovation in driving sustainable urban transformation.
Speaking at the seminar, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube emphasised the city's commitment to harnessing the power of innovation to achieve its vision of becoming a leading smart and transformative city by 2025.
Dube highlighted the city's seven sustainability pillars, which are operational imperatives for the administration, and encouraged the research community to develop policy-relevant and implementation-ready solutions.
"The city council is committed to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship, with plans to create municipal procurement opportunities for innovative solutions, co-invest in scalable urban solutions, and provide municipal data and infrastructure for testing."
He also announced that the city is ready to fast-track piloting of promising innovations and facilitate linkages with industrial partners.
"We are not just regulators, but active partners in your innovation journeys," Dube said.
"Let this seminar produce not just ideas, but actionable partnerships that will shape our sustainable future."
He said that the major aim of the seminar was to foster collaboration and partnerships between the city council, research community, entrepreneurs, and development partners. By working together, Bulawayo can unlock its potential and achieve sustainable urban transformation.
