7 hrs ago | Views

A 36-year-old Harare man, David Jambanja, has been formally charged with murder after his colleague, Tinashe Kapfunde, died following a brutal assault during an argument over a missing US dollar.
Jambanja appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates Court on Saturday and was remanded in custody. A bail hearing is scheduled for today.
Court documents reveal that the violent incident occurred in March when Jambanja woke Kapfunde, who was asleep, accusing him of stealing US$1 from their shared home. In a sudden outburst of anger, Jambanja assaulted Kapfunde using a cooking stick, repeatedly striking him on the head until the stick broke. Undeterred, he reportedly continued the assault with another stick, inflicting severe head injuries on Kapfunde.
The victim's mother, Winnet Mutedza, reported the assault to police authorities. Kapfunde was initially treated at Parirenyatwa Hospital and discharged to recover at home. However, his condition worsened in May, prompting emergency admission to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital before being transferred back to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for further treatment.
Tragically, Kapfunde succumbed to his injuries on the evening of May 14.
The case remains under investigation as the legal process continues.
