A 24-year-old man from Muringai Village in Chiweshe has been arrested for allegedly assaulting his wife to death following accusations of infidelity.
Sydney Muringai is currently assisting police with investigations into the death of his 22-year-old wife, Bethel Nhamburo, police confirmed.
According to Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe, the incident occurred on the night of June 7.
Reports indicate that Muringai stepped outside the bedroom to smoke while his wife was resting. Upon returning, he accused Nhamburo of having extra-marital affairs, which led to a heated argument.
Muringai allegedly assaulted his wife using a rope, striking her all over the body, before grabbing a wooden plank and hitting her on the back of the head (occiput). Nhamburo lost consciousness, suffering a deep head wound and severe bleeding.
After she became unconscious, Muringai reportedly ceased the assault and attempted to administer first aid. He then called for help from his brother, Allan, who arrived with his wife.
The two attempted to rush Nhamburo to the hospital, but she tragically died en route.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
