Hwange 1 - 0 Tsholotsho
HWANGE stormed back into top flight football after only one season in the lower tier Southern Region Division One League after prevailing over fierce rivals Tsholotsho in an exciting contest played at the Colliery Stadium yesterday before a bumper crowd.
A sweet and well taken first time volley by workhorse Ernest Gwitima on the half hour mark made the big difference for the coalminers who went into yesterday's match needing only a point to make a quick return into the elite league.
The goal came as a result of a swift counter attack by Chipangano which involved Innocent Ndlovu, Canaan Nkomo and overlapping defender Gerald Ndlovu whose brilliant cross was complemented by a precisely taken goal by Gwitima to send the passionate drum beating home fans into delirium.
Hwange now have 66 points while Tsholotsho remained on 55, with two fixtures remaining both teams before the end of the season, which means that Iziqholo Ze Zhwane cannot overtake Chipangano.
A clearly elated Hwange coach Nation Dube had a few words after the game.
"We are back and back with a bang. I am happy for the players and everyone involved in this noble Hwange FC project." he said.
The club chairman, Butholezwe Dube vowed that Chipangano are not back at the top to make up numbers but to compete for honours.
"It is a big day for Hwange community as we received our coronation in front of our loyal fans who supported us throughout. We will work on the team and ensure we also fight for honours next year so that the other stakeholders who are assisting in sponsoring the team are gratified," said Dube.
