Zanu-PF's Midlands Provincial Chairperson, Edson Chiherenge, has attributed the party's loss in the Kwekwe Central seat, situated in President Emmerson Mnangagwa's stronghold, to the "bhora musango" campaign. This campaign, characterized by internal sabotage from disgruntled members, resulted in the defeat of Zanu-PF's Energy Ncube by Citizens Coalition for Change's Judith Tobaiwa in the August polls.
Speaking to party supporters at Zanu-PF offices in Kwekwe, Chiherenge expressed determination to reclaim the seat from Tobaiwa. He pointed to internal strife as the cause of Ncube's loss, citing instances where party members allegedly used money to undermine their own candidate. Chiherenge asserted that disciplinary hearings would be held to address the sabotage and punish those found guilty.
The alleged interference of FAZ and the CIO in Zanu-PF's internal elections, favoring anti-Mnangagwa candidates and G40 members, led to surprising defeats for several party stalwarts, including Philip Chiyangwa, Joseph Chinotimba, Ziyambi Ziyambi, Fortune Chasi, and Dexter Nduna. Chiherenge vowed to deal decisively with those implicated in the rigging.
Referring to the historical context of "bhora musango," Chiherenge highlighted its resurgence in various parts of the country and criticized party members who prioritize personal interests over the party's goals. He emphasized the need to stop the practice of voters selectively supporting candidates and urged unity within Zanu-PF, condemning opportunistic members solely focused on self-interest.
"As a party, we are going to deal with the issue decisively. We cannot continue having a situation where we lose Kwekwe despite the fact that this is the President's hometown," Chiherenge stated, pledging to ensure the party's victory in the region.
