Zimbabwe expects cloudy weather, showers as rainy season begins

Zimbabwe is set to experience cloudy conditions with localised showers today as the country gradually transitions into the rainy season, according to the Meteorological Services Department (MSD). Head of forecasting, Mr. James Ngoma, said that thundershowers are also expected in some regions, marking the arrival of much-needed rainfall.

"The hot and humid conditions we are currently experiencing are due to moisture approaching from Botswana, moving into Zimbabwe's western areas, specifically Matabeleland North and South," Ngoma explained. "These provinces can expect thundershowers, with additional moisture creating widespread cloudy conditions and localised downpours across the country."

The MSD noted that cooler weather is anticipated for Matabeleland South, Masvingo, and Manicaland as moisture continues to build. This shift in weather should bring relief from the recent warm temperatures as the country heads into Thursday.

Despite the high temperatures, Zimbabwe is not currently facing a heatwave, clarified Mr. Ngoma. "These conditions are normal for this season. While we do get brief sunny periods that create hot daytime conditions, the duration is short, and therefore it doesn't meet the classification of a heatwave," he said.

The MSD advises residents to stay prepared for sudden showers and cooler weather, particularly in southern and eastern provinces, as Zimbabwe officially welcomes its rainy season.
