President Dr. Emmerson Mnangagwa expressed his shock and sadness over the sudden passing of prominent politician and gender activist, Mrs. Lilian Timveos, in a condolence message released on Monday, 11 November 2024. Timveos, who passed away earlier that day after an unexpected illness, was recognized for her dedicated grassroots leadership and commitment to unity across Zimbabwe's political landscape.

Describing Timveos as a "dynamic, grassroots politician" and "staunch gender activist," President Mnangagwa highlighted her contributions to national politics and community development, saying that her passing represents a significant loss for Zimbabwe. "Her rejoining the ruling ZANU PF Party, alongside several hundreds of erstwhile opposition leaders and activists, mirrored her daring, independent-minded politics and tenacious search for larger unity and consensual politics in our Nation," he said.

President Mnangagwa noted Timveos' efforts to bridge Zimbabwe's political divides, calling her commitment a "salutary lesson of broad-minded politics" for opposition figures and a reminder to ruling party members of the importance of building inclusivity within the ZANU PF Party.

On behalf of ZANU PF, the government, and his family, the President extended heartfelt condolences to the Timveos family. "May they find respite and comfort in the great esteem with which we all held her," he expressed.

President Mnangagwa announced that the government would provide a state-assisted funeral for Timveos, in recognition of her contributions to the nation.
