A collision between a Quality Gases truck and a Revival bus trailer occurred earlier today about 10km outside West Nicholson, a small settlement along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway in Matabeleland South province.

According to reports, the truck, which was headed to Bulawayo, sideswiped the Revival bus trailer as it was making its way to Beitbridge. The incident occurred on a stretch of road known for heavy traffic and is part of the vital link between the two major cities.

Eyewitnesses and a video taken shortly after the accident suggest that the driver of the truck may have been trapped or fatally injured in the wreckage. One individual, who filmed the aftermath of the crash, described the scene and speculated that the truck driver might not have survived the accident, though this has yet to be confirmed by authorities.

Local residents in West Nicholson, a town once known for its beef canning industry, expressed their shock at the accident. The settlement, which once thrived as a hub for Liebig's Extract of Meat Company (Lemco), has seen its economic fortunes decline over the years, a situation many blame on corruption and poor governance under the current regime.

The tragic incident has raised further concerns over the state of infrastructure and road safety in the area. While the exact cause of the crash is still under investigation, some local sources indicated that the truck might have lost control while descending a hill, leading to the collision with the bus.

As investigations continue, the tragedy has underscored the need for enhanced safety measures along the busy highway, which has seen numerous accidents in the past.
