A 35-year-old man from Mazowe, Lucky Fero, is facing attempted murder charges after allegedly stabbing his wife, Faith Manyasha (26), three times on the head and assaulting her with a burning log following a heated argument over divorce.
The chilling incident, which occurred on November 1, came to light at the Concession Magistrates' Court last Friday, where Fero was remanded in custody without pleading to the charges. He will return to court on December 3 for further proceedings.
According to prosecutor Munyaradzi Nengomasha, the altercation began when Manyasha expressed her frustration with the marriage and indicated her intention to divorce, citing emotional and physical abuse. Manyasha reportedly threatened to take some of their property to her parents' home, which further enraged Fero.
In a violent outburst, Fero allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed his wife three times in the head. Not stopping there, he is said to have then assaulted her with a burning log.
Despite the brutal attack, Manyasha managed to escape and sought help, later filing a police report. Her injuries were not immediately disclosed, but her escape from the violent confrontation has brought the horrifying incident to public attention.
Fero has been remanded in custody as investigations continue, with authorities set to determine whether he will face additional charges related to the attack.
The case has sparked public outrage, with many condemning the escalating trend of gender-based violence in the country. Manyasha's brave action to escape and report the incident has been praised, highlighting the importance of seeking help in the face of abuse.
The court will hear further details of the case when Fero returns on December 3.
