Zimbabwe war vets hold provincial elections
2 hrs ago | Views
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has announced that its provincial elections will take place on November 30, 2024, following the successful conclusion of its national elective congress in Gweru earlier this year.
Voting will be held in each of Zimbabwe's 10 provincial capitals through an electoral college system comprising members of the national executive as well as current provincial and district executive members.
Newly elected ZNLWVA Secretary General, Samuel Parirenyatwa, confirmed the election date and emphasized the importance of adhering to the association's constitution.
"We expect the elections to be conducted peacefully in accordance with the association's constitution," said Parirenyatwa.
Supervised Elections
To ensure transparency and order, members of the national executive will oversee and monitor the elections across the provinces. According to a circular released by the association, district registers compiled by district chairpersons and approved by the provincial chairperson and national chairman will serve as the voters' roll.
Parirenyatwa also outlined key rules governing the elections. Candidates who lose their bids for chairmanship will not be allowed to contest for other positions, and acts of misconduct could lead to automatic suspension.
"All positions need comrades with the proper ZNLWVA ideological standing and with a clean criminal record," Parirenyatwa stated.
Call for Unity
The elections are expected to shape the leadership of the ZNLWVA at the provincial level, continuing the association's mission of uniting and representing the interests of Zimbabwe's war veterans.
Parirenyatwa called on members to approach the elections with unity and respect, urging candidates and voters to uphold the principles and values of the liberation struggle.
The results of the elections will pave the way for the association's future leadership at the grassroots level, fostering continuity in its role as a voice for liberation war veterans across the country.
