Zanu-PF wants Harare - Beitbridge highway completed

The Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial leadership has urged the Government to expedite the completion of outstanding works on the Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge highway, a critical infrastructure project for Zimbabwe.
While the 585km-long highway is officially nearing completion, motorists and travellers have expressed frustration over unfinished stretches that continue to pose challenges.
Outstanding Sections
Work remains incomplete on three key sections of the highway:
Masvingo to Beitbridge: Construction of the second bridge across Mucheke River by Masimba Construction is ongoing, alongside incomplete stretches outside Masvingo town.
Chibi Tollgate to Ngundu Growth Point: This section remains a "nightmare" for drivers due to its condition.
Ngundu to Rutenga in Mwenezi: Further improvements are needed to enhance safety and travel efficiency.
Provincial Leadership Appeal
Zanu-PF Masvingo provincial chairperson Robson Mavhenyengwa called on the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development to prioritize finishing the project.
"We have received numerous complaints from motorists and travellers regarding the incomplete sections of the highway. These stretches are causing significant inconvenience, and we appeal for swift action to allow people to fully benefit from this modern infrastructure," said Mavhenyengwa.
He emphasized the need to complete the outstanding works before launching the second phase of the project, which will focus on the Harare-Chirundu stretch.
Tribute to Local Companies
Mavhenyengwa commended President Mnangagwa's leadership in entrusting local companies with the project. Five firms - Tensor Systems, Fossil Contracting, Bitumen World, Exodus and Company, and Masimba Construction - were tasked with rehabilitating the highway, which had previously been plagued by narrow lanes and fatal accidents.
The upgraded highway has already boosted business activity along its route and facilitated faster movement of both human traffic and cargo, a vital step for economic growth and regional trade.
As the highway nears completion, the provincial leadership underscored its significance for the country's development, urging authorities to address remaining challenges. The finished project is expected to set a benchmark for subsequent infrastructure upgrades, including the Harare-Chirundu stretch, and enhance Zimbabwe's road network for years to come.
