Victoria Falls City Town Clerk, Mr. Ronnie Dube, has been awarded Zimbabwe's Best Performing Chief Executive for 2024 by the Zimbabwe CEO's Network, an organization dedicated to advancing leadership excellence through peer mentorship, focused learning, and professional recognition.
Mr. Dube, who has served as Town Clerk since 2016, has transformed Victoria Falls into a model of innovative urban governance. Upon taking over from Mr. Christopher Dube, now Bulawayo Town Clerk, he steered the city toward earning its official city status in 2019 and has since worked tirelessly to position Victoria Falls as a global leader in sustainable tourism and smart urban development.
Leadership and Achievements
Victoria Falls City has consistently won multiple accolades for local governance under Mr. Dube's stewardship. These include recognition for its comprehensive urban master plan, which integrates sustainable housing, water management, and heritage preservation into its development strategy.
The city's ambitious "smart city" initiative aims to make Victoria Falls a world-class tourism destination by 2030, with projects focused on technology-driven solutions and environmental sustainability. Key achievements under Mr. Dube's leadership include: Housing Development: Launching a new scheme for 500 beneficiaries to address a waiting list of 18,000. This builds on a successful partnership with CBZ Holdings in 2016 that delivered 1,900 stands. Water and Sanitation: Enhancing water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, including constructing new water reservoirs. The city has invested US$2.2 million in the project but requires an additional US$14 million for its completion. Sustainable Growth: Focused efforts on heritage preservation, aligning with the city's goal to integrate environmental conservation with urban expansion.
The gold award presented by the Zimbabwe CEO's Network highlights Mr. Dube's strategic vision and his ability to lead with innovation and integrity. Reflecting on the honor, Mr. Dube credited his team and community:
"This award is a testament to the unity and hard work of everyone at Victoria Falls City Council. I thank the Mayor, Councillor Prince Thuso Moyo, councillors, staff, and residents for their invaluable support. Together, we are building a sustainable future," he said.
Victoria Falls City continues to gain international recognition not only for its natural wonders but also for its forward-thinking governance. Mr. Dube's leadership has set a high standard for urban resilience and sustainable development in Zimbabwe.
As the city works toward achieving its 2030 vision, Mr. Dube remains committed to improving residents' quality of life while positioning Victoria Falls as a premier destination for global visitors. "We are creating a thriving community today while laying the foundation for future generations," he said.
