Nqobile Magwizi, a youthful entrepreneur and board member of Banket United, has confirmed that he is seriously considering running for the presidency of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) in the upcoming elections.

Magwizi's confirmation comes amid growing speculation on social media regarding his potential candidacy. The football administrator has not dismissed these rumours, indicating that he is carefully weighing the decision.

"I have seen the rumours circulating on social media," Magwizi told ZimLive. "What I can confirm is that I'm considering contesting for the ZIFA presidency."

Magwizi emphasized that his decision to run is not one he is taking lightly. "This is not a decision I take lightly, so I'm consulting with those close to me and football stakeholders before making my final decision," he added.

Magwizi's potential candidacy comes at a crucial moment for ZIFA, which is undergoing a significant transition. The association has been marred by challenges, and many football stakeholders are calling for fresh leadership that can restore the organization's credibility and foster growth in Zimbabwean football.

If he proceeds with his candidacy, Magwizi will face tough competition from a number of high-profile figures. Among the potential candidates are Prophet Walter Magaya, businessman Marshall Gore, Temba Mliswa, football administrator Martin Kweza, former ZIFA vice-president Philemon Machana, and Farai Jere, a former ZIFA board member.

The nomination process for the highly anticipated ZIFA elections officially opened on Monday, December 2, 2024, and will close on December 11, 2024. The elections are set to take place on January 25, 2025, at Rainbow Towers in Harare, marking a pivotal moment for Zimbabwean football.

Magwizi, who is also the founder of NC and Banat Strategic Partners, a property advisory and consultancy firm, has gained recognition for his contributions to business and sports administration. His candidacy, should he confirm his participation, could bring a new wave of leadership to the struggling football association.

As the election date approaches, Zimbabwe's football community will be closely watching to see who will emerge as the leader capable of guiding the nation's football to a brighter future.
