A total of 553 officers from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) graduated on Wednesday from the Police Staff College after completing various training programs aimed at enhancing their professional skills.

The graduates were awarded University of Zimbabwe Diplomas in Law, Business Enterprise Development in Policing, and Community Education and Lifelong Learning. Additionally, 365 officers received Certificates in Training Methods, Law and Policing, Traffic Management, Staff Administration, and Sign Language.

The 41st graduation ceremony was attended by Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science, and Technology Development Minister Ambassador Fredrick Shava, Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga, and other senior government and police officials.
Celebrating Professional Growth

In his keynote address, Ambassador Shava commended the ZRP for maintaining peace and security in the country and abroad.

"It is an honor and privilege to address you all at this significant occasion. I commend the ZRP for ensuring peace in our communities and rendering selfless services in war-torn and destabilized parts of the world," he said.

Shava also lauded the ZRP's efforts in maintaining order during key events, such as the 44th SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government, attributing the force's professionalism to robust training programs delivered by the Police Staff College.
Focus on Gender Equity

The minister highlighted the progress in gender equity within the ZRP, noting that female graduates increased from 209 last year to 216 this year, representing 37% of the cohort.

"This is a positive achievement and reflects the ZRP's commitment to fostering gender equity within its ranks, in alignment with the National Development Strategy 1 and global standards," Shava remarked.

He encouraged Commissioner General Matanga to enroll more female officers in future programs to further promote inclusivity.
Enhancing Policing Services

Shava emphasized the importance of applying the skills acquired during training to improve policing services for citizens.

"The government expects improved police services as a direct result of enhanced skills and knowledge gained from such training institutions," he said.

The ceremony celebrated the ZRP's ongoing commitment to professional development, reinforcing its role in maintaining peace, security, and public trust.
