Mnangagwa honours nephew Tongai and others

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has commended individuals and organizations for their pivotal roles in Zimbabwe's liberation struggle and ongoing national development efforts. These individuals included his nephew Tongai.

The President's remarks were delivered by Zanu-PF Politburo member Charles Tawengwa during a Liberation Empowerment Awards ceremony in Harare on Saturday. Organized by Legacy TV, the event celebrated contributions to Zimbabwe's liberation, the Third Chimurenga, and development under the Second Republic.

President Mnangagwa emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of the liberation struggle by recognizing those who have made significant contributions.

"These awards remind us of the struggles and sacrifices that secured our freedom," he said. "They also inspire future generations to continue building a strong and vibrant nation."

The ceremony paid tribute to icons of Zimbabwe's First Chimurenga, including Mbuya Nehanda Nyakasikana, whose leadership and courage symbolize female strength, and Sekuru Chaminuka, celebrated for his prophetic vision and resistance against colonial invaders.

The President also highlighted the legacy of Induna Matshe, an emissary of King Lobengula, whose loyalty and integrity remain a model of devotion to national service.

Among the notable awardees was Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Ezra Chadzamira, honored for his consistent efforts toward realizing Vision 2030. Receiving the award on his behalf, Masvingo Provincial Secretary Dr. Edmore Pazvakavambwa committed to accelerating the province's progress.

"This award challenges the province to fast-track initiatives in economic growth, innovation, and social development, ensuring Vision 2030 becomes a reality by 2028," he said.

Other honorees included leaders of indigenous churches like Madzibaba Moses Gwarisa, awarded the Joshua Nkomo Patriotic Legacy Award for mobilizing grassroots support for Zanu-PF.

Madzibaba Moses expressed gratitude, saying, "Vapostori and Zanu-PF are one. We remain committed to unity and supporting the ruling party."

Additional recipients included: Tongai Mnangagwa, Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, recognized for his leadership in promoting the tourism sector. Apphia Musavengana, founder of Concord for Young Women in Business Global, for empowering women entrepreneurs. Madzibaba Obey Mapuranga, spokesperson for Vapostori and Zion for ED, for his role in fostering unity.

The awards underscore the importance of collective efforts in Zimbabwe's journey to prosperity. President Mnangagwa reaffirmed the Second Republic's commitment to honoring the sacrifices of the past while advancing the country's socio-economic goals.

"The legacies of those who shaped our nation serve as powerful reminders that our decisions and actions today inspire the generations of tomorrow," he said.
