President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Botswana for his first visit to the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat Headquarters since assuming the role of Chairperson of the regional bloc. The visit underscores his leadership commitment to advancing SADC's strategic goals and fostering regional integration.

Mnangagwa was warmly received by Botswana's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Phenyo Butale, Botswana Ambassador to Zimbabwe Ms. Sarah Molosiwa, and Zimbabwe's Ambassador to Botswana, Henry Mukonoweshuro.

The visit highlights Zimbabwe's dedication to implementing SADC's Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP 2020-2030) and Vision 2050. These frameworks focus on enhancing industrial development, infrastructure growth, and social and human capital development to drive economic progress across Southern Africa.

Key components of the RISDP include: Industrial Development and Market Integration: Promoting regional trade and industrial growth. Infrastructure Development: Establishing robust infrastructure to support regional connectivity. Social and Human Capital Development: Enhancing education, health, and skills among SADC populations.

Upon his arrival, President Mnangagwa was welcomed with a military guard of honour, symbolizing the significance of the occasion. His agenda includes a high-level briefing, meetings with SADC Secretariat officials, and presiding over two landmark events: the official handover of the newly acquired SADC Secretariat Headquarters building and the ground-breaking ceremony for the SADC Regional Logistics Depot.

The visit underscores Mnangagwa's leadership in addressing regional challenges such as economic integration, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth. It also reaffirms Zimbabwe's commitment to SADC's collective efforts in fostering regional cooperation and achieving the Vision 2050 goals.

As Chair of SADC, President Mnangagwa's tenure is expected to focus on driving these priorities, reinforcing the bloc's role as a cornerstone of regional unity and development.
