Mnangagwa to officiate at ZPCS pass out parade
2 hrs ago | Views
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived at the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Training School in Ntabazinduna to officiate at the 154th pass-out parade. The event has drawn scores of attendees, including Government officials, senior prison officers, relatives of the graduates, and newly recruited correctional officers.
The atmosphere at the graduation grounds is vibrant, with the prison band providing entertainment for the guests ahead of the formal proceedings. President Mnangagwa is expected to deliver a keynote address during the ceremony, which marks the culmination of a rigorous six-month training program for 1,600 recruits.
Among the graduating officers are individuals from the San community in Tsholotsho, highlighting a milestone in their growing representation within Zimbabwe's national security services. This initiative builds on the Second Republic's efforts to integrate the historically marginalized community into mainstream society.
In June 2022, a group of 20 youths from the San community graduated from a similar training program, marking the beginning of their involvement in national service. Prior to these interventions, the San people faced significant challenges, including a lack of birth certificates and identity documents, which excluded them from accessing essential services like healthcare, education, and voting.
The absence of formal identification also limited the community's access to education and formal employment opportunities, leaving many reliant on menial jobs. President Mnangagwa's administration has since prioritized addressing these disparities, facilitating access to documentation and implementing measures to ensure the inclusion of the San community in national development initiatives.
Today's ceremony not only celebrates the achievements of the graduating officers but also underscores the Government's commitment to leaving no one behind in its national development agenda.
