3 hrs ago | Views
Investigations are underway to determine the cause of a fire that broke out at the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Headquarters administrative complex at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KGVI, along Liberation Legacy Way in the early hours of yesterday.
The fire reportedly started around 2:50 am and caused extensive damage to parts of the administrative complex. However, no casualties were reported.
In a statement, ZNA public relations director Colonel Alphios Makotore expressed regret over the incident, stating:
"We regret to inform the public that a fire broke out at the Army Headquarters administrative complex… resulting in extensive damage to some of the offices at the complex."
Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene and managed to contain the blaze.
"Firefighters managed to douse the flames, and no casualties have been reported at the barracks," Col. Makotore added.
Authorities have confirmed that investigations into the cause of the fire will soon begin. More details will be provided as information becomes available.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures at the military facility, as well as the potential loss of critical documents or equipment housed in the affected offices.
This marks the latest in a series of fire incidents at key government and military installations, prompting calls for improved fire prevention strategies.
