Glendale, Zimbabwe - A tragic incident unfolded at 007 Night Club in Glendale in the early hours of December 26, 2024, leaving one police constabulary dead and another officer injured while attempting to arrest a suspect.
According to sources close to the investigation, the deceased has been identified as Police Constabulary Ernest Kamufumo, 54, of Playmouth 14 Farm, Glendale. He was fatally struck and dragged by a car driven by the suspect, Wellington Moyo, 26, of Ziko Farm, Chitungwiza. The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when ZRP Glendale officers were on duty at the nightclub during a performance by Macheso Band. Officers responded to reports of Moyo behaving violently toward patrons.
As Constable Manyimbiri and Constable Yapara attempted to arrest Moyo, he resisted, striking Manyimbiri on the forehead with a stone. Reinforcements were called to assist, including Police Constabulary Kamufumo.
Moyo then attempted to flee in his black Honda Fit (registration AGC 8399). In the process, he reversed the vehicle at high speed, running over Kamufumo and dragging him beneath the car. The suspect’s vehicle collided with a pavement, forcing him to stop.
