The Government of Zimbabwe, in collaboration with private players, has launched a major initiative to develop 250,000 residential stands and flats in Manyame, set to benefit both civil servants and ordinary citizens. Of these, 20,000 stands have been ring-fenced specifically for civil servants.

The development comes as the Government has surpassed its target of ensuring one million housing units by the end of this year, and has revised the goal to 2 million units by the end of 2025.

Speaking at a signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government and Pinnacle Holdings in Harare, Local Government and Public Works Minister Dr. Daniel Garwe emphasized that Zimbabweans are assured of well-designed, well-constructed, and well-planned housing.

"This is the beginning of 2025, and our target was for December 2025. We have already hit that target at the beginning of January 2025. I am confident that by the end of 2025, we will be able to reach 2 million housing units," Minister Garwe stated.

He highlighted that this development aligns with Vision 2030, which seeks to build a prosperous Zimbabwe. Minister Garwe reiterated President Mnangagwa's mantra that "Nyika Inovakwa Nevene Vayo," meaning that the country must be developed by its people.

The 250,000 housing units will be developed in Manyame, behind the sprawling town of Chitungwiza. Minister Garwe praised Pinnacle Holdings and other financial institutions for supporting the Government's vision of providing housing for all Zimbabweans, including civil servants.

"The President wants to see every civil servant with at least a stand, a flat, or a house because no one and no place must be left behind," he said.

Further, Minister Garwe revealed that more housing projects are set to be launched in other provinces. For example, a programme called Nyore Nyore in Manyame will see 250,000 stands and flats developed. Similar initiatives are planned for other regions, such as Chinhoyi, which will witness the launch of a project for 500,000 housing units soon.

Pinnacle Holdings chairman, Dr. Chiyangwa, assured the Government and the public that the company would deliver 1.2 million housing units across various provinces. He noted that the Manyame project, which accounts for 250,000 units, is just one part of a broader initiative, with a significant project planned in Mashonaland West Province.

"This is a huge development in the building environment," said Dr. Chiyangwa.

The joint efforts reflect the Government's commitment to addressing Zimbabwe's housing challenges and ensuring inclusive development for all citizens.
