Veteran accountant vows to bring ZIFA into accountability
2 hrs ago | Views
Veteran Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) central region chairperson, Gilbert Saika has vowed to bring his experience and expertise on financial accountability in his quest to turn around the board's managerial and administrative prerequisites.
Speaking this week during an interview, Saika promised to work with anyone emerging victorious during the much-anticipated January 25th elections and claimed his involvement (if voted board member) will attract vast corporate sponsorship.
"From my experience in the Northern Region Soccer League, I spent seven years in the executive which is a lot of achievement. I was also the chairperson for one of the most prolific Premiership teams, Mwana Africa," Saika said.
"I have also been the chairman of NRSL side Trojan Stars and currently I am the Central Region chairperson. I have acquired just enough experience and knowledge in the game to go and serve in the ZIFA executive," Saika added.
A chartered accountant by profession, Saika worked for several corporates and gained both experience and good relationships.
"I have experience in financial reporting, auditing and treasury; and obviously I would be handy in bringing stability in terms of accounting into the ZIFA board," Saika boasts.
"That will ensure that we attract corporate sponsorship because transparency will guarantee that," Saika added.
"Even FIFA will be in a position to support us more if we do our things in a proper manner. So I need to bring out my wealth of knowledge in terms of financial reporting and discipline from the corporate world into the public sector which is ZIFA in this regard," He added.
"I am coming from an ethical background which doesn't support any meandering. My organisation is very strict and they will obviously be monitoring me," Saika said.
