Lower Sixth classes are scheduled to resume on Monday, January 27, 2025, following the release of both Cambridge and ZIMSEC O-Level results, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education announced on Monday.
In a statement, Education Secretary Moses Mhike said: "The commencement date for the 2025 lower sixth classes is Monday, the 27th of January 2025. Please ensure that all Heads of schools, teachers, parents, and the pupils are advised of this date."
Mhike also noted that school fees for the term will be calculated on a pro-rata basis, based on the approved first-term fees for each institution.
The announcement comes after the Zimbabwe Schools Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) released the 2024 Ordinary Level results last week, reporting a remarkable 33.19% pass rate. This marks the highest pass rate in over 40 years and reflects a significant improvement from the 29.41% recorded in 2023 and 28.96% in 2022.
The milestone has been lauded as a testament to the resilience of Zimbabwe's education system despite various challenges.
The Ministry urged parents and guardians to ensure timely preparation for the start of the academic year for Lower Sixth students, as schools gear up to welcome a new cohort of learners.
