Highlanders Football Club returning officer Peter Dube has announced that three candidates have successfully been nominated to vie for the positions of vice chairman and treasurer in the upcoming club elections scheduled for February 2.

Fiso Siziba, who has declared his intention to seek another term, will run unopposed for the vice chairman position. Meanwhile, Israel Moyo and Nkani Khoza will contest the treasurer's position in what is expected to be a closely watched race.

Speaking on the nomination process, Dube said:

"We have two vacant positions, one for vice chairman and one for treasurer. The Electoral College sat this morning (yesterday). Candidates submitted their nomination forms by last Saturday before the 12pm cut-off. All three met the constitutional requirements.

"The candidates have been notified of their successful nomination and can now campaign. This coming Sunday, they will be introduced to the club's membership."

Siziba expressed gratitude for being nominated unopposed, emphasizing his dedication to the club's mission.

"I feel humbled by the trust Highlanders members have shown in me. While I'm happy to be unopposed, I remain committed to learning and pursuing the club's mandate. Elections can be divisive, so I pray for peace and unity. I'm eager to continue working for the club, especially with what seems like a challenging season ahead," said Siziba.

Moyo has kept a low profile regarding his candidacy, while Khoza declined to comment, citing personal commitments. Interestingly, Khoza nominated Moyo for the treasurer's position, showing a sense of sportsmanship despite being competitors.

Candidates had to meet strict eligibility criteria, including being uninterrupted Highlanders members for at least 24 months, securing endorsements from at least 10 members in good standing, and paying a $200 nomination fee. This fee is refundable if the candidate garners at least 10% of the votes cast for the position.

After the nomination process closed, a verification procedure was conducted to ensure all candidates fulfilled the club's constitutional requirements.

The elections are part of Highlanders' tradition of staggered leadership renewal to ensure continuity. Last year's elections focused on positions for executive chairman, secretary, and committee member, while this year's focus is on the remaining two leadership roles.

The candidates are expected to engage with the club's membership in the coming days as they outline their visions for Highlanders' future.
