Victoria Falls businessman Njabulo Nyathi (47), affectionately known as JB, died in a car accident on Sunday morning alongside another resident, Noah Mapako. The accident occurred in the early hours as the pair was driving from KoWalter drinking spot in Monde toward Victoria Falls City.

Nyathi, the owner of Motherboard Computers at Phumula Centre, and Mapako, an employee at KoWalter nightclub, were traveling in a vehicle belonging to Nyathi when one of the wheels reportedly came off. The car veered off the road and crashed near Masuwe Bridge, leading to their untimely deaths.

JB's niece, Ms. Elina Mpofu, expressed the family's grief, describing Nyathi as a pillar of support.

"It's a sad incident, and we have lost a pillar in the family," she said.

Mourners are gathered at Nyathi's home in the Low-Density suburb of Victoria Falls. His body will be transported today to his rural village in Makwe, Gwanda, for burial. Mapako's remains will also be laid to rest in his rural home in Zvishavane.

Victoria Falls women's quota councillor Tariro Mutapwa paid tribute to JB, highlighting his contributions to the community.

"It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the untimely passing of our dear friend and colleague, JB. His absence leaves an irreplaceable void in our hearts and lives. He will be remembered for his service to the community, kindness, dedication, and sense of humour," she said.

Nyathi is survived by five children.

In a separate incident near Victoria Falls yesterday morning, an unconfirmed number of passengers narrowly escaped death when their vehicle was struck by a long-distance bus. Details remain scant, as Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda was unavailable for comment.

The tragic accidents have left the Victoria Falls community in mourning, underscoring the need for vigilance on the roads to prevent further loss of life.
