Police investigate suspected suicide in Bulawayo's Kingsdale suburb

Bulawayo police have launched an investigation into a suspected suicide case after the decomposing body of a 27-year-old man was discovered hanging from the roof trusses in his family home in Kingsdale suburb.

Acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the identity of the deceased as Daniel Quinton Lunga. According to Msebele, Lunga left home on January 17 at around 11:00 AM, heading to the central business district. It was reported that Lunga had a history of occasionally not returning home for extended periods, which led his family members to not immediately worry about his absence.

However, on January 20, around 12:00 AM, Lunga's younger brother noticed a strange smell and flies coming from his brother's room. Alarmed by the unusual signs, the family opened the door to find Lunga's decomposing body hanging from the roof trusses.

Msebele noted that no foul play was immediately suspected as nothing unusual was found on the body. A suicide note was discovered on the table, which further raised concerns about the possibility of suicide.

"The body was searched and nothing was found, however a suicide note was placed on the table," Msebele said.

Following the discovery, the deceased's body was transported to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.

Assistant Inspector Msebele also took the opportunity to urge members of the public to seek help and support from third parties when facing personal challenges. "It is always important to talk to someone when facing problems, rather than resorting to taking one's own life," she emphasized.

The police have promised to continue with their investigations to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Lunga's death. Meanwhile, authorities continue to encourage individuals experiencing emotional distress to seek assistance from counseling services and support networks in their communities.
