Armed robbers jailed 75 years each in Zimbabwe

Three men from Masvingo have been sentenced to 75 years each in prison after being convicted for their involvement in a series of armed robbery cases that occurred on January 15, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday, police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi expressed gratitude to the public and the judiciary for their role in bringing the suspects to justice.
The convicted men, identified as Clever Svuure (28), Vusumuzi Bhebhe (25), and Yasin Joseph (21), were arrested by police after information linked them to the robbery incidents in Masvingo. The arrests led to the recovery of stolen items, including a Mazda Axela vehicle (registration number AEQ 0533), several cellphones, groceries, solar panels, and various household goods.
The suspects were connected to a total of 14 armed robbery cases, including two incidents on January 15. The first robbery occurred at around 0035 hours at a house in Clipsham View, Masvingo, where a Mazda Axela vehicle, US$20 in cash, a laptop, and three cellphones were stolen. The second robbery took place at approximately 0350 hours at Lot A Victoria Range, Masvingo, where a complainant was attacked with a machete before having two cellphones, cash, and other valuables stolen.
The three men were arraigned before the Masvingo Regional Magistrates Court on January 22, where they were convicted and sentenced.
Svuure was sentenced to 95 years in prison, while Bhebhe and Joseph were each sentenced to 125 years behind bars for their roles in the crimes.
Police have commended the swift response from the public and law enforcement, which led to the successful apprehension of the robbers and the recovery of stolen property.
