Chiwenga to bury Mupamhanga

Acting President Dr. Constantino Chiwenga will today preside over the burial of national hero Justin Mupamhanga at the National Heroes Acre in Harare. He will stand in for President Mnangagwa, who is currently on annual leave.
The national shrine will open to mourners as early as 6 a.m., with attendees expected to be seated by 7 a.m.

Mupamhanga, a former Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, passed away last Wednesday at a Harare hospital. Known for his unwavering dedication to public service and humility, his death has been described as a significant loss to the nation.
Yesterday, a church service in his honor was held at Mabelreign Revelation-Methodist Church, where mourners highlighted his deep faith and contributions to the church.
Former ZESA Holdings chief executive Engineer Ben Rafamoyo, who worked with Mupamhanga when he served as Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Energy, described his passing as a tremendous blow to both the United Methodist family and the country.
"He was deeply committed to the church and dedicated his time and resources to its growth. His loss is immeasurable," said Eng Rafamoyo.
Retired Major Anesu Katsande, United Methodist Harare District Superintendent, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that Mupamhanga's contributions extended beyond his family to the nation at large.
"He built a church in his home area of Mount Darwin and always remained humble despite his high-ranking positions. He was a giver and a devout Christian who loved God and cared for the church," she said.
From Liberation Fighter to Public Servant
Mupamhanga's life was marked by his commitment to Zimbabwe's liberation and development. In 1975, he abandoned his university studies at the then-University of Rhodesia to join the ZANLA forces fighting for independence.
After completing military training, he was permitted to resume his university education and later played a significant role within the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU), serving in the commissariat and education departments.
Following independence, he joined the Government in 1983, working in the Economics Division of the President's Department. His public service career was distinguished by integrity and a strong work ethic, earning him widespread respect.
