Three women from Harare, Diana Sibanda (35), Brendy Msipa (35), and Tabeth Harris (33), have been arrested and charged with aggravated indecent assault and robbery following a harrowing incident involving a 20-year-old man from Mazowe.
The three suspects appeared before regional magistrate Tilda Mazhande yesterday and were remanded in custody until February 13, pending the completion of investigations.
According to State prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, the incident occurred on January 25 when the complainant was driving along Leopold Takawira Street in Harare. Sibanda allegedly forced open the passenger door of the complainant's car and grabbed the gear lever, blocking him from driving. She then took the complainant's Samsung Note 20 Ultra from the armrest.
Sibanda reportedly threatened the complainant with a screwdriver and directed him to follow her to a nearby residence. Once inside, the court heard, Msipa and Harris joined them, where they allegedly assaulted the complainant, caressed him, and forcibly undressed him before sexually assaulting him.
The trio then demanded money from the victim, who gave them US$20. After the assault, they escorted him back to his car and stole a power bank, modulator, and phone charger. They later forced the complainant to hire a taxi to his residence, where they demanded and were given US$80.
However, their plan unraveled when the complainant spotted police officers patrolling the area and shouted for help, leading to the swift intervention of law enforcement. The suspects were arrested, and the complainant's belongings were recovered.
The case has attracted attention due to the severe nature of the assault and the boldness of the suspects' actions. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will remain in custody as the case progresses.
