People in Mhondoro are up in arms with their ward six councillor Sword Dandara (ZANU-PF) who allegedly connived with the former Chegutu mayor's son (opposition) and some village heads to convert ZANU-PF district offices and a police post in Chomukoreka into a pre-school.

Speaking on condition of anonymity for fear of being victimised, a close source confirmed that the councillor mobilised some village headmen, youths (from both ruling and opposition political parties) and former legislator who is now member of the party's District Co-ordinating Committee (DCC) and encroached into councilor Maxwell Zinyengere's ward, sold ZANU-PF offices and another property which was earmarked to be used as a police post.

"Councillor Dandara mobilised with some youths, village heads and sold party district offices to Wadzingenyama junior who is a former opposition Mayor of Chegutu's son," the source said.

"The offices should be used for their intented purpose of serving the women and youth wings within our district. We only learnt about the transactions between these cuprits when they construct a septic tank, refurbish the party offices and erect a pre-school banner by the main entrance," the source added.

"Other village headmen, former legislator and some youths from both ruling and opposition party have connived together and turn our party office into a kindergarten. We reported the matter to our councillor who is responsible for this ward where our offices are located and he promised to raise the issue with top leadership," the source added.

"Due to delimitation, the exercise has impacted the already existing corruption and the former councillor is living in denial by interfering with the affairs of other independent ward. He converted party properties including another one which was supposed to be a local police post. We want to defend our property since it is part of our heritage built by late comrades Nathan Shamuyarira and Evaristo Matsvayire Kashiri," the source added.

When contacted for comment, local councillor Maxwell Zinyengere confirmed that there were some conversions to the party offices, but his investigations proved to be a futility since no one is coming forward to have initiated and involvement into the abnormality.

"Yes I tried to approach those alleged to be involved in the illegal activities in my ward which accommodate party offices, but the alleged culprits are evasive. I told everyone to stop the developments including some who were constructing a septic tank and all offices have been changed into partitioned classrooms for early childhood development (ECD)," Zinyengere confirmed.

"We are against conversion of our party offices into pre-school. The community alerted me about that and everyone including some village heads involved in the scandal are distancing themselves from that," he added.

Efforts to get a comment from the alleged councillor and former mayor's son proved to be futile since their phones were not reachable.
