A 35-year-old man from Plumtree, Lesson Moyo, was sentenced after pleading guilty to assault and malicious damage to property for attacking a local woman who turned down his love proposal. Moyo appeared before Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, where he was fined $200 for the assault and sentenced to 210 hours of community service for the damage to the woman's property.

According to Prosecutor Selestine Madziwa, the incident occurred early last month when Moyo visited the complainant at her home to propose a romantic relationship. However, when the woman rejected his proposal, Moyo became enraged, accusing her of having too much pride.

In his fit of anger, Moyo reportedly grabbed a 20-litre tin full of oil and struck the woman with it before damaging some of her belongings. The violent outburst was stopped when neighbors intervened and restrained Moyo.

A police report was filed following the incident, leading to Moyo's arrest. In court, Moyo admitted to the charges, explaining that he had been drunk at the time of the assault.

Magistrate Nembaware, after hearing the details of the case, imposed the fine and community service sentence, emphasizing the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully. The court also took into account Moyo's admission of guilt and his expressed remorse for his actions.
