Man kills own mother and attacks niece

Police in Marimba, Harare, have arrested 22-year-old Nyasha Bandawe after he allegedly murdered his mother and viciously attacked his five-year-old niece in a disturbing domestic violence incident. The gruesome events unfolded on Wednesday, leaving the community in shock.

According to a statement released by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on X (formerly Twitter), Bandawe fatally stabbed his 59-year-old mother, Hilda Drawu, during a domestic dispute. The suspect allegedly used a kitchen knife to stab his mother multiple times in the neck. After killing her, Bandawe concealed her body under the bed and locked the bedroom door before turning his aggression towards his niece.

In a brutal and senseless attack, Bandawe then stabbed the five-year-old girl indiscriminately with a screwdriver. Fortunately, the child survived the assault and was rushed to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital for medical treatment. Authorities have not disclosed the extent of the child's injuries, but she is reportedly receiving the care she needs.

After the attack, Bandawe fled the scene, sparking a manhunt by law enforcement officers. Authorities launched an immediate search in the Marimba area, and within a short period, the suspect was apprehended in the same neighborhood.
