The Zanu-PF Women's League has expressed strong support for a resolution to extend President Emmerson Mnangagwa's tenure to 2030, arguing that his continued leadership is essential to achieving the ruling party's Vision 2030 goal of transforming Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy.
During a meeting with female ministers and deputy ministers, Zanu-PF Secretary for Women's Affairs, Mabel Chinomona, emphasized the importance of rallying behind President Mnangagwa to ensure the realization of his transformative development agenda.
"You are party appointees, honourable ministers, hence we expect you to be responsive to our party," said Chinomona. "I was happy that every province has its number one resolution that the sitting President will be there until 2030. So the President will be able to accomplish his goal, and the people will see the vision."
Chinomona highlighted the critical role of women leaders in advancing this vision, urging them to use their positions in government to prioritize the interests and well-being of women across the nation.
"This shows your dedication to our party. We are all here because we share a common goal, that of advancing the interests and well-being of women through your respective ministries," she said.
The Women's League's endorsement of President Mnangagwa aligns with its belief that his leadership is pivotal in driving Zimbabwe's socio-economic transformation and fostering sustainable development.
Despite President Mnangagwa's earlier indications that he would not seek another term, the league's resolution reflects a growing desire within Zanu-PF to maintain continuity in leadership as the nation works toward its long-term development goals.
The Women's League also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting female empowerment initiatives and addressing gender disparities, with Chinomona calling on ministers to leverage their influence to uplift women in their constituencies.
As Zanu-PF continues to deliberate on the extension of President Mnangagwa's tenure, the Women's League's position underscores the broader party agenda of unity and sustained leadership to realize Zimbabwe's Vision 2030.
