A 25-year-old man from Mhimha Close, Budiriro 2, appeared in court on Monday facing a charge of disorderly conduct after allegedly storming the New Parliament building in Mt Hampden last week, demanding a personal meeting with President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The accused, Fungai Mukamba, was remanded in custody until February 24 for a routine court appearance. The presiding magistrate ordered that Mukamba undergo a mental examination before further proceedings.

Prosecutor Dzidzai Josiah told the court that on February 6, Mukamba went to the Parliament premises and insisted on having an audience with the Head of State. According to the State, Mukamba became violent after being denied entry into the August House, prompting his arrest by security personnel.

The incident raised security concerns as it involved an attempt to gain access to the President. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Mukamba's actions are ongoing.
