A cloud system has brought significant rainfall to the southern regions of Manicaland and Masvingo provinces, with some areas experiencing heavy downpours.
The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) reported the highest rainfall measurements in Chimanimani Ward 10A - Chikukwa (148 mm), followed by Makohoholi (107 mm) and Chimanimani Ward 4 - Nhedziwa (106 mm). Both Chisengu and the Chimanimani met offices recorded 102 mm of rainfall, while Chayamiti received 97 mm, Ngorima 75 mm, Ndima 74 mm, Rusape 64 mm, and Mukandi 55 mm.
As the weather system progresses, the MSD predicts cloudy and mild conditions, accompanied by widespread thunderstorms, particularly in Masvingo, Midlands, Manicaland, and Mashonaland East provinces.
The department has urged the public to take precautions in light of the heavy rainfall and the potential for thunderstorms.
"It is advisable to seek proper shelter during storms, avoid crossing flooded rivers and low-lying bridges, and secure property and infrastructure vulnerable to heavy rain," the MSD advised.
The department also encouraged residents to stay updated by following local weather bulletins for further alerts and safety guidance.
The rains bring both opportunities for agriculture and potential risks, with residents urged to remain vigilant to ensure safety during the ongoing weather developments.
