Two Zimbabwean nationals have been arrested in South Africa's Limpopo Province after they were allegedly caught in possession of 148.5 kilograms of dagga, valued at nearly R500,000.

The suspects, aged 25 and 39, were apprehended in Thabazimbi, a mining town near the Botswana border, about 450 kilometers from the Beitbridge Border Post.

According to South African Police Service (SAPS) Limpopo spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the arrests followed a joint operation between the police and local farmers.

"Police stopped the truck with a male driver and a female passenger and searched the vehicle. They found the trailers loaded with 106 small bags of dagga, 10 big bags of dagga, and two refuse bags of loose dagga," Ledwaba said in a statement.

A white Scania truck with two trailers, allegedly used by the suspects to transport the contraband, was also seized.

The pair was arrested on Thursday and is expected to appear before the local magistrate's court soon to face charges related to drug possession and trafficking.

Authorities in Limpopo have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug smuggling, which remains a growing concern in the region.
