Tensions within the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have escalated, with Sengezo Tshabangu's faction condemning a disciplinary hearing convened by Welshman Ncube as a "sham" and a "kangaroo court." Tshabangu, the self-proclaimed interim secretary-general of the party, was summoned to the hearing this week following his unilateral actions that led to the restructuring of parliamentary committees, which reportedly demoted lawmakers aligned with Ncube's faction.

The changes to the parliamentary committee leadership, made without consultation, have sparked internal strife, leading to the disciplinary hearing. In a statement, Tshabangu's spokesperson, Nqobizitha Mlilo, expressed the faction's dissatisfaction with the process, claiming that the hearing was a mere formality dressed up as an official party procedure.

"Senator Tshabangu attended what can only be appropriately described as a sham and kangaroo hearing dressed up in borrowed robes of a disciplinary hearing," Mlilo said. He went on to outline the composition of the disciplinary panel, which included Senator Sesel Zvidzai, Concillia Chinanzvavana, and Gilbert Kagodora, with Shepherd Mushonga acting as the arbiter-general. Advocate Kucaca Phulu, representing Tshabangu, appeared under the instruction of Mabikwa Attorneys.

According to Mlilo, the hearing was held in an informal workshop venue, reportedly owned by CCC member Willias Madzimure, a person who, according to Tshabangu's faction, has long been critical of the interim secretary-general. Mlilo further noted that Tshabangu had raised concerns at the start of the hearing, stating that he had not been provided with a charge sheet, nor was he informed about the specific provisions of the party constitution that underpinned the disciplinary proceedings.

Tshabangu's faction now sees the breakdown in communication as indicative of deeper divisions within the CCC, calling it a clear indication that efforts to resolve the dispute amicably have been irreparably damaged.

The internal rift highlights the growing tensions within the opposition party, which has been grappling with leadership disputes and ideological differences between various factions. While Ncube's faction seeks to assert control, Tshabangu's camp is challenging what they perceive as an unjust and hasty disciplinary process.

As the political drama within the CCC intensifies, the future of the party's unity remains uncertain, with both factions standing firm in their positions.
