Headmaster in court over forgery allegations
9 hrs ago | Views

The headmaster of Sojini Secondary School in Mbembesi, Matabeleland North, Themba Nyoni, appeared in court on Thursday facing charges of forging documents to withdraw US$1,220 from school funds.
Nyoni, 53, allegedly forged the signature of the school chairman, Arnold Nombembe, on a withdrawal slip and cashed the funds at Stanbic Bank. He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Beverly Madzikatire and was remanded out of custody until March 6 for the continuation of his trial.
The State called forensic expert Kurauone Madzivanyika, who testified that Nombembe's signatures on the withdrawal slip had been forged. Prosecutor Sehliselo Khumalo told the court that Nyoni committed the offence on November 21, 2023, when he allegedly falsified Nombembe's signature to withdraw the funds.
The alleged forgery came to light when Nombembe discovered the withdrawal slip bearing his forged signature in the school bursar's office. "The withdrawal slip was for US$1,220," Khumalo said.
Nyoni has faced controversy in the past. In 2018, he was taken to court following accusations of bullying and publicly berating teachers, allegedly calling them useless. Reports indicate that he clashed with some subordinates who refused to comply with what they described as his "draconian" rules.
The case continues as the court deliberates on the allegations against Nyoni.
