Local Government and Public Works Minister, Daniel Garwe, has firmly rejected claims that the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology is a Zanu-PF initiative, as suggested by anti-government critics. The Minister clarified that the institution is a national program, guided by President Emmerson Mnangagwa, and is intended to foster national consciousness and promote the interests of Zimbabwe as a whole, rather than serving any political party's agenda.

"Ideology has no political face but carries a national identity—that of Zimbabwe. It is important to understand that this is a national programme, not a Zanu-PF project, as has been falsely claimed," said Minister Garwe in a statement on the school's role in shaping national values.

The Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology was established with the aim of fostering a deep sense of national pride, patriotism, and revolutionary spirit among the people, especially the youth. It seeks to prioritize the national interest above partisan politics and is part of a broader national ideological initiative under the leadership of President Mnangagwa.

Minister Garwe further revealed that his ministry is working to collaborate with various state universities to drive forward agendas that would enhance local governance and civic participation, further integrating national ideology into broader educational frameworks.

"The Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology is an important part of our national programme, not confined to one political party but reflecting the values of all Zimbabweans. It is a national asset, established to instill the spirit of revolution, patriotism, and national unity," Garwe explained.

The Chitepo School is part of a regional network of similar institutions founded by former liberation movements to nurture the values of revolution and national sovereignty. Its purpose mirrors that of the Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Leadership School in Tanzania, which serves as the headquarters for all liberation movements in Southern Africa. The focus of these institutions is to ensure that citizens understand the historical and ideological foundations of their countries, promoting self-reliance and national development.

Minister Garwe's remarks come amid a growing debate about the role of ideological institutions in the political landscape, with detractors accusing such programs of serving the interests of specific political factions. However, the Minister's statement aims to clarify that the Herbert Chitepo School of Ideology is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe's national identity and development.

As the school continues its work, officials expect it to play a crucial role in educating the nation on its revolutionary past while guiding future generations towards unity and development, aligned with the nation's long-term goals.
