A Harare woman has taken her ex-husband to court, accusing him of stalking, harassment, and physical assault driven by jealousy after she moved on from their relationship.

Kelly Mufambi testified before the court that her former husband, Steven Chikwiramatara, has been assaulting her in public whenever he spots her with her new boyfriend. She said the abuse has become frequent and is now affecting her personal and professional life.

"He told me he will make my life miserable, even for my children, until I do what he wants," Mufambi told the court. She added that Chikwiramatara regularly shows up at her workplace in an apparent attempt to humiliate her in front of colleagues and clients.

According to Mufambi, her ex-husband has issued threats forbidding her from dating or engaging in any romantic relationships until his death. "At times, he calls me just to insult me and demand to sleep with me," she said during her testimony.

However, Chikwiramatara denied the allegations, claiming that Mufambi was the one who had been instigating conflict. He admitted to struggling emotionally after the divorce, including having suicidal thoughts, but insisted he never threatened Mufambi or their children.

Despite his denials, the court ruled in favour of Mufambi, concluding that there was no peace between the parties and that the ongoing harassment warranted legal intervention.

The judgment is expected to pave the way for further protection measures for Mufambi, though it is unclear whether criminal charges will follow.
