Independence day funds looted

A group of disgruntled and starved villagers from various wards in Muzarabani are up in arms with the District Development Co-ordinator's office after independence day celebration resources worth thousands (US$3 000 and 60 000ZiG) mobilised for their welfare vanished after a looting spree involving events organising cartels.
Investigations by Bulawayo24.com proved that a clique of civil servants from DDC's office in Muzarabani connived to loot independence resources that authorities are failing to account for.
"Imagine that we were only allocated 10 kilogrammes of meat per ward out of about 500 kgs from the carcases. The rest vanished and we are kindly appealing to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to swiftly respond in combating such level of endemic corruption experience by various wards," the villager said.
"The DDC's office is failing to account for the remaining meat and meanwhile, some meat are pilled at a butchery in Centenary post-independence. Not even a single box of chicken and fried chips reach a poor villager for independence jubilation," the villager added.
When contacted for comment, Muzarabani DDC chairperson, John Chihobo could neither confirm nor deny the alleged corruption, and was evasive if he had received any report accounting how his office handled the donations and allocations.
"Whoever gave you that information should confirm l am a civil servant, hence l am not allowed to comment to the media by the official secrecy act," Chihobo said.
Out of 15 wards in Muzarabani South, seven wards, including Gatu, Nyamanetsa, Chaona, Mutute, Chipiri, Mawari and Palms have been starved despite sufficient resources which have been well mobilised.
