The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has stepped up efforts to fight sophisticated crime by equipping detectives with specialised skills to tackle high-profile criminal activities.

This comes after 63 detectives successfully completed an intensive 45-day intermediate investigations course at Shamva Battle Camp in Mashonaland Central province.

ZRP national spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi said in a statement on Wednesday that the training was part of the force's ongoing efforts to enhance the capability of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) crack teams.

"The ZRP has intensified the capacitation and skills development of CID crack teams in the fight against armed robbery, theft of motor vehicles, murder and other criminal acts in the country," said Nyathi.

The closing ceremony was presided over by Commissioner-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, who underscored the need for enhanced tactical preparedness and operational efficiency within specialised police units.

The course focused on advanced techniques in tracking, tactical response, and investigating complex crimes, including cybercrime, murder, and vehicle theft—areas that have become increasingly challenging due to evolving criminal methods.

"The members underwent training to boost their capabilities in handling high-risk duties such as pursuing armed robbery syndicates and investigating cyber-related offences," Nyathi said.

Commissioner-General Mutamba also reaffirmed ZRP's commitment to embracing modern policing technology to improve response times and crime scene investigations.

The latest training exercise forms part of a broader strategy by the police to strengthen national security and effectively respond to the surge in specialised and violent crimes across the country.
