A 44-year-old woman from Mazowe has been accused of forcibly engaging in sex with a visually impaired man, an incident that unfolded on February 27 at Netherlands Farm. The shocking incident was brought to light during a court hearing at the Bindura Regional Court, where Fatima Kamuponisi was arraigned before Magistrate Amos Mbobo.

Kamuponisi, who stands accused of rape, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

According to Prosecutor Getrude Mayenyeso, the complainant, a man with visual impairments, was at home alone when Kamuponisi arrived at his residence. The accused allegedly asked the complainant to escort her to the garden, a request he initially refused.

Despite his refusal, Kamuponisi is accused of forcefully marching the complainant to the garden. Once in the secluded spot, she allegedly removed his trousers and sexually assaulted him. The complainant, unable to see the attacker, was reportedly unaware of her intentions until it was too late.

The alleged attack was interrupted when Kamuponisi heard footsteps approaching. Fearing being caught, she is said to have shoved the complainant aside and fled the scene.

The complainant's mother, who had returned home and became aware of the situation, gave chase after Kamuponisi. The pursuit ended when the mother caught up with Kamuponisi, who was then handed over to the authorities.

Following her arrest, Kamuponisi was taken into police custody. Her actions have raised alarm in the local community, and her case continues to unfold as it moves through the legal system.

In court, Kamuponisi maintained her innocence, asserting that the accusations against her were false. Magistrate Mbobo remanded her in custody as the case continues.

This case has stirred emotions within the community, with many expressing disbelief over the alleged incident, given the vulnerability of the victim due to his visual impairment. The court proceedings are expected to continue as authorities seek justice for the complainant.
