The Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development has announced the mobilisation phase for the construction of a Grade Separation Structure (flyover) at the busy Simon Mazorodze and Willowvale Road junction is now underway, marking a major step forward in efforts to decongest Harare's road network.

In a statement, the ministry confirmed that preparatory works have commenced, paving the way for what it described as a key infrastructure project designed to enhance traffic efficiency and improve road safety at one of the capital's most congested intersections.

"Mobilisation is currently underway in preparation for the construction of a grade-separated interchange at the Simon Mazorodze/Willowvale Road Junction," read part of the ministry's statement on X (formerly Twitter).

The project is part of a broader national strategy to modernise urban road infrastructure and address chronic traffic bottlenecks, especially in high-volume areas.

The Simon Mazorodze–Willowvale intersection is a critical junction linking Harare's industrial zones, residential areas, and key arterial routes, including access to Beitbridge and other southern regions. It has long been plagued by heavy congestion and frequent accidents, especially during peak hours.

Once completed, the flyover is expected to significantly reduce delays, improve the movement of goods and commuters, and boost road safety in the area. Details on the timelines, contractors, and budget allocations are expected to be released in the coming weeks.

The ministry has urged the public to cooperate with construction teams during the implementation phase and promised to provide regular updates as the project progresses.

This development forms part of Zimbabwe's broader infrastructure rehabilitation programme, which includes road dualisation, bridge repairs, and urban transport upgrades nationwide.
