A faction of disgruntled Dynamos Football Club supporters has called for a boycott of all home matches, starting with this Sunday's highly anticipated Harare Derby against arch-rivals Caps United, in protest against what they describe as the "mismanagement and poor governance" of the once-mighty club.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Dynamos FC Supporters Association - Harare Chapter, has gone viral on social media, urging fans to stay away from matches as a way to pressure club owner Bernard Marriot Lusengo and his executive, led by Moses Maunganidze, to step down.
Dynamos, a club with a rich history and passionate following, is currently languishing in 16th position - deep in the relegation zone - after collecting just eight points from 11 matches. The team has managed only one win, five draws, and five defeats in a dismal start to the 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season.
The poor run of form already cost head coach Lloyd Chigowe his job, and the club is expected to announce a new technical team, with former Kwekwe United coach Saul Chaminuka reportedly taking charge.
In a letter circulating widely online, the supporters lamented the club's continued decline since its last league title triumph in 2014.
"As the Dynamos Football Club Supporters Association Harare Chapter, the mother of all chapters… we have come to the unbearable conclusion to call on all our members and other blue and white faithful to peacefully boycott all Dynamos home matches until further notice," reads part of the statement.
"We feel hard done by the manner and conduct in which our beloved Glamour Boys have turned out to be a team that has carelessly lost its pride and glitz."
The group blames the club's downfall on a lack of proper investment, poor player retention, and frequent changes in the coaching department - with at least 11 coaches appointed and sacked during Marriot's decade-long reign.
"Many coaches, qualified and capable, have been chopped and changed year in and out, but the script has embarrassingly remained the same," the group stated.
They further accused the executive of failing to attract meaningful sponsorship, establish a strong junior policy, or implement effective marketing strategies to strengthen the Dynamos brand.
"Over the years, we have learnt with dismay of players owed signing-on fees and the failure to allow continuity by implementing a vibrant junior policy. There's a total lack of sound sponsorship and marketing initiatives that would have positioned Dynamos alongside regional powerhouses like Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs."
The campaign echoes similar protest actions by Highlanders supporters last season, who boycotted home games at Barbourfields Stadium to protest against the Premier Soccer League's handling of club matters.
With the Harare Derby looming, the proposed boycott threatens to overshadow what has historically been one of Zimbabwe's biggest football spectacles. Whether the action will force change at the top remains to be seen, but it clearly signals deep unrest among the club's loyal supporters.
