ZANU-PF's candidate for the upcoming Insiza North Constituency by-election, Delani Moyo, has officially submitted his nomination papers at the Gwanda Magistrates Court, solidifying his place on the ballot ahead of the June 14 vote.
Moyo was confirmed as the ruling party's candidate following his decisive win in a tightly contested primary election on Wednesday, where he emerged victorious against six other hopefuls. He garnered 1,588 votes, outpacing Moses Langa who secured 1,185 votes, and Qhubani Moyo with 837. The remaining candidates - Davison Moyo, Sifiso Mpofu, Nkosana Mthunzi, and Enerst Ncube - received 94, 54, 21, and 19 votes respectively.
Speaking after filing his nomination papers, Moyo expressed his commitment to retaining the seat for ZANU-PF, following the untimely death of former MP Farai Taruvinga in March after a battle with cancer.
"I am honoured to be entrusted with the responsibility to represent ZANU-PF in Insiza North. I pledge to work tirelessly to ensure that we defend this seat and continue the legacy of service left by the late Taruvinga," said Moyo.
The by-election in Insiza North is expected to be closely watched as parties gear up for what could be a key test of political strength in Matabeleland South Province.
Moyo's nomination now paves the way for campaigning to begin in earnest, with the ruling party expected to deploy its grassroots machinery to rally support ahead of polling day.
